If you and/or your friends/school/community group would like a tour of IMB this can be arranged through the IMB Postgraduate Office.
Tours can be quick 30 min activities, or longer +2 hr events (the latter typically reserved for school/community groups). All tours must be negotiated and approved well in advance.
30 min Tours: This format is best suited to smaller groups (2-6). After meeting and registering in the IMB Foyer one of the IMB Science Ambassadors (a postgraduate student or postdoctoral fellow) will lead a guided tour, pointing out key aspects of the building and scientific infrastructure, answering any questions and providing valuable insights into the research carried out across one or more IMB Divisions.
School/Group Tours: This format is best suited to groups of 7-30. After meeting and registering in the IMB Foyer the group will proceed to a seminar room where one of the senior IMB staff (e.g. a Lab Head) will provide a presentation on the IMB. After this presentation the group will be broken up into teams of 2-6, each lead by an IMB Science Ambassador who will provide a guided tour of the building and scientific infrastructure. Where prior negotiated, a limited set of “hands on” activities and sessions can be arranged with IMB scientists, so that students can get a better feel for what research really means. School tours are most effective if they are coordinated closely with teachers, allowing both the presentation, tour and activities to be themed/graded to best match the age, ability and interests of the students.
If you are interested in a tour please contact the IMB Postgraduate Office indicating who you are, how many visitors/students you would like to have join a tour, roughly when you would like to have the tour, and what objectives/outcomes you would like to achieve from such a visit.
